Ten tips for a good Sponsorship
When reviewing organisations’ sponsorships it is common to find many ‘run of the mill’ sponsorships few really good sponsorships. The benefits of going beyond the average sponsorship are:
Longevity of the sponsorship
Increased benefits for both parties
A win for the organisation, a win for the sponsor and a win for the community
Less stress managing the relationship
Here’s what needs to be in place.
1. A partnership that has a shared understanding and respect for each other’s core business
2. The partnership provides added value for both organisations
3. Clearly defined objectives that can be measured to prove cost effectiveness
4. Evaluation processes in place to ensure successful business outcomes
5. Right resources in place e.g. people managing the partnership
6. Goes beyond the mainstream PR/media/advertising sponsorship benefits and is creative in what it offers to both parties
7. Creates good will, is well accepted by its audience and helps build the community
8. Sound communication processes in place
9. A contract more than 12 months – a longer term partnership such as beyond 2 years
10. The sponsorship is continually challenged by both organisations to ensure expectations are met or exceeded.
If some of these points are missing in your partnerships – you may need a tune up so contact the Mechanics for assistance

Bowls in Victoria: Putting the right foot forward in sponsorship.
Recently all board members of the Royal Victorian Bowls Association and Victorian Ladies Bowls Association undertook training held by Sponsorship Mechanics on sponsorship. Great feedback was received and board members left feeling more confident about what’s involved with sponsorship and how to manage the relationships successfully.
VIS and Regional Sports Academies
The Mechanics have been working with the Victorian Institute of Sport to develop a state wide sponsorship offering involving all the Victoria Regional Sports Academies. Part of the project involves training up Academy staff and boards in the areas of finding and managing and keeping sponsorship partnerships. It has been a stimulating project that has involved strategic planning sessions, workshops and ongoing mentoring support. See picture above at the launch of the sponsorship offering. Did you know that many of our best athletes come from regional areas?
